Congratulations, Alex and Danya!

Today my friends Alex and Danya exchanged vows of marriage, in a lovely ceremony overlooking the Salt Lake valley. The whole day was nearly flawless, and I wish them all the best!

A few things I'll remember from this day: the breathtaking view of the Salt Lake valley; the gorgeous grounds of Red Butte Garden; beginning with a barbeque; bridesmaids on a golf cart; "6.0 on that processional pacing!"; helping two families come together; getting props even from Mormon missionaries about the service I designed (go Intro to Preaching and Worship!); rushing to Taco Bell between the wedding and the reception in a sputtering car; being able to say to Alex and Danya, "Already taken care of" - over and over again; the bride's grandfather and maid of honor tearing up the dance floor; chocolate-covered strawberries; catching the garter.

I must also say that it was particularly a joy to create a beautiful moment with the fun-focused-and-formidable partnership of my co-directors and associate producers, KBB and MDS (complete with walkie-talkies). I think we could take on J-Lo in The Wedding Planner teamed with Franck (Martin Short) from Father of the Bride any day! The thing is, when the people who care about a couple take their job seriously enough - but not too seriously - then they have the chance to create a space where the couple can let go of the planning and stand before God to make vows for life. THAT is truly a privilege for friends to share.
