Retirement Celebrations
Today Union celebrated the careers of three of its most important teachers: Delores Williams, Paul Tillich Professor of Theology and Culture; Larry Rasmussen, Reinhold Niebuhr Professor of Christian Ethics; and Rosemary Keller, Academic Dean and Professor of Church History. The day was wonderful, beginning with a powerful, festive worship in James Chapel. Each of the professors then gave a lecture from the major themes of their work. A lavish dinner and tributes closed the evening.

A beautiful day, but a bittersweet one. For these professors embody all that Union stands for at its best - pathbreaking, courageous, critically reconstructive. We will always need their wisdom, and will never wear shoes that fill their footprints.
