Now a Gmail User

This is just one more reason why blogging is cool (even though I'm just an amateur). I'm now a user in the heralded, instant-infamous email service offered by Google, Gmail. While some have raised major privacy concerns relating to Google's searching mail messages, I am willing and excited to try the service out, based on two ideas. (1) Email is becoming a fundamental medium of communication, and the only way to maintain frontiers of privacy is to discover what new technologies actually mean for privacy. (2) Let's not pretend, after all, that all of our email isn't searchable (and searched) already. Given that either Google or Microsoft (Hotmail) could hold my email-life in its servers, I'd trust the former (though I'm a die-hard Windows user). Do I believe in Google? Yes - because I believe in searching as the driving power of the Internet. Google has done a pretty good job so far of not selling out - and I'm willing to try out this new product in order to help it expand.
