FOLLOW THE 2006 SENATE RACES!
I am always, always talking about how the US Senate is where anyone on the left in this country needs to focus. Why? Because the White House takes at a minimum around 20 state races, while taking back the Senate requires at a minimum 6 state races. Moreover, every Senate seat has equal weight, so winning a Senate seat in small states counts toward victory as much as in big states. Finally, while the Senate is only one chamber in Congres, it alone has the power to stop the stacking of the federal judiciary with judges opposed to reproductive choice, LGBTQ equality, civil rights for all people and especially racial minorities, meaningful regulation of corporate behavior, and environmental protection.
The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC) has created a neat interactive map that lets you easily follow the progress of the races. NOW is the time to be informed about what's coming up next year, NOW is the time to get organized for the campaigns, and NOW is the time to take the Senate back.
One of the DSCC's best moves is to create an online community for grassroots organizing. www.FromTheRoots.org allows you to participate in the campaigns, to post articles and messages, and to take active steps in recruiting both contributions and volunteers to the cause. I urge you to visit the site today.
