I'll admit it, there's one time during the year when I listen almost exclusively to Christian radio (specifically, Spirit 105.3, "Seattle's Family Friendly Station"): it's the only place where I can hear at least some songs appropriate to what Christmas means to me. 65% of the music, 95% of the hosting/editorial content, and 45% of the advertising are utterly abhorrent to me.
At any rate, now that I am returning to regular radio, I chanced across a song by The Killers, from their abulm Hot Fuss. I really like the song, but I don't understand the lyrics at all. I can't tell if it's something profound or puerile. My sister would probably tell me I'm trying to hard, but here they are anyway (courtesy of Let's Sing It, where you can even join a discussion board about the song and many others):
"Somebody Told Me"
Breaking my back just to know your name
Seventeen tracks and I've had it with this game
I'm breaking my back just to know your name
But heaven ain't close in a place like this
Anything goes but don't blink, you might miss
'Cause heaven ain't close in a place like this
I said heaven ain't close in a place like this
Bring it back down, bring it back down tonight
Never thought I'd let a rumour ruin my moonlight
Chorus
Somebody told me you had a boyfriend
Who looked like a girlfriend
That I had in February of last year
It's not confidential, I've got potential
Ready let's roll onto something new
Takin' it's toll and I'm leaving without you
But heaven ain't close in a place like this
Anything goes, but don't blink you might miss
Cause heaven ain't close in a place like this
I said heaven ain't close in a place like this
Bring it back down, bring it back down tonight
Never thought I'd let a rumour ruin my moonlight
Chorus
Pace yourself for me
I said maybe, baby, please
But I just don't know now
When all I wanna do is try
Chorus (3x)

got the psalter in the mail today. thank you SO much. what a thoughtful present. i look forward to exploring it. in related to your post news... the killers were recently featured on an episode of the OC. their music is good and - bonus - the lead singer is hot-t.
