If you could choose one book that every 8-year-old child in the United States were required to read in school - assuming that each child had adequately been taught to read - what would it be and why?

Oh, heck, I don't care about being anonymous, Jeremy, but neither am I ready to commit to yet another password I won't be able to remember tomorrow! You might think I'm dodging the question, but the book I'd want every 8 year old to be required to read would be the one that's in his/her hand right now, the one they can't put down because it makes them giggle, or makes them think "Hey! I know what that feels like!", the one that RIGHT NOW is making them feel like reading is the most enjoyable activity in the whole big wide world. Wishing you Happy Christmas and the very merriest of holidays.
